Blog #10

I believe the most effective way to use data collection/surveys as a teacher (that I would use) is to gain feedback on the course and how you ran it, specifically if you're a first time teacher.  This can give you a really great outlook on what students appreciated about your course and what they think could be improved.  This also comes from the student perspective and will give you an in-depth look into what it was like for them.  I also think the utilization of Excel is something I would use when creating my grade book for my class.  This is because I can complete calculations that will easily come up with final grades for my students.  Specifically, if I were an elementary school teacher I could create different sheets for each subject to keep everything organized.  I would say the most interesting things to read about on my classmates' blogs were their experiences with each platform we used/each assignment.  This really helped me connect to ever...

ILP #2

Here is the link to my second ILP!  I decided to attend the Digitech exhibition and honestly had a great time! If you are here at FSU next year, definitely check it out! https://voicethread.com/share/12405244/

Thursday's Class!

First, I want to say a huge thank you to those who took my survey!!! Disney is favorite thing so I'm super excited to see your responses. The three ILP's I chose to look at were: Elizabeth's (Participation on Lynda.com with "Keynote"), Morgan's (Participation on Lynda.com with "Improving Your Memory"), and Kadi's (Participation on Lynda.com with "Learning to Write a Syllabus").  I chose these three because I did Design for my first ILP and wanted to see how some classmates did the Participation option.  Each ILP I explored was super intriguing and were super different based on content/what they chose to learn about. The three survey's I took were: Anna's (Favorite Foods), Penny's (History), and Hilary's (Eating Habits).  These survey's also offered completely different subjects to offer my input on which I thoroughly enjoyed!

I think the "The Flipped Classroom" is an intriguing idea.  This concept alters standard instruction and make the learning process a more interactive and individualized approach.  Much of class time is spent on the initial instruction and gives little time for practice.  By flipping the classroom and making the initial learning process a home-based thing, students can then come in and work through their specific struggles and questions regarding the subject.  The classroom then also becomes a place for advanced collaboration.  These students begin to work through these concepts together and generate new ideas along the way with their peers and the teacher.  Flipping the classroom can give these students a chance to really dig deeper into the concepts.  It also rids time spent on the introductory of a concept, which is an increasing problem when it comes to assessment of knowledge. Open educational resources allow for continuous, typically online, acc...

Qualtrics Survey!

Hey all!  Here's my survey that I created.  Due to my love for Disney I decided to theme my questions off of that and play around with a few different question types.  Thanks for taking it! https://fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6D3KiGdo3814hbD

I definitely did gain quite a few new skills with Diigo.  Prior to working with this platform, I was extremely into bookmarking.  I am constantly bookmarking all the important things I need on a day-to-day basis and storing them on my Bookmarks Bar.  This is such an effective way to keep track of everything and stay organized.  With Diigo I was able to take that initial skill and now learn how to make these bookmarks public and accessible for everyone.  A skill that I gained from this process, that I actually really appreciate, is the ability to make public comments/highlighting on the actual page being bookmarked.  This helps you keep track of thoughts and voice your opinions and understandings of the content.  I think it could definitely be beneficial in a classroom setting during a research process for a particular project because of its way to compile findings into one central place. PowerPoint is a really great platform to creatively display you...

So far, Twitter has been a pretty easy and insightful experience.  Being pretty familiar with it before I felt as though I didn't necessarily have to learn anything new.  Despite being out of touch with it for a few years I immersed myself back into the platform and it seemed like I never left.  Using Twitter has a lot of benefits, personally and professionally.  The one that I feel is the most beneficial are the connections that can be made through it.  This helps a lot of people who are just starting a career in their field and then can learn about companies or people that might interest them and find ways of getting into further contact with them.  Twitter allows you to personally create a brand for yourself based on the content you post and the people you follow and interact with on there. I had a pretty great time designing my website!  I found it very enjoyable to create something in a really hands on way.  There were times when I found th...
