Blog #10
I believe the most effective way to use data collection/surveys as a teacher (that I would use) is to gain feedback on the course and how you ran it, specifically if you're a first time teacher. This can give you a really great outlook on what students appreciated about your course and what they think could be improved. This also comes from the student perspective and will give you an in-depth look into what it was like for them. I also think the utilization of Excel is something I would use when creating my grade book for my class. This is because I can complete calculations that will easily come up with final grades for my students. Specifically, if I were an elementary school teacher I could create different sheets for each subject to keep everything organized.
I would say the most interesting things to read about on my classmates' blogs were their experiences with each platform we used/each assignment. This really helped me connect to everyone because many of them had very similar experiences to me (what they liked/disliked, etc.). This was also exiting because I could see portions of their creations with the screenshots of their assignments. We all used very different subject areas/grade levels and was a great way to get to know everyone. I also appreciated everyone's honesty in their experience over the course of the semester because it showed I wasn't alone in my feelings and it really helped me connect to everyone on a deeper level.
I personally would love to learn how to really use a 3D printer. I think they can be incredibly beneficial in any educational setting because of the ability to create tangible objects that go hand in hand with your curriculum. Having that skill under your belt could be really helpful to your students and yourself. Ways I could gain this skill would be to watch the tutorials on Lynda.com or read one of the handbooks you can purchase that are specific to different brands of 3D printers. However, 3D printers are a hands-on experience so being able to get in a technology lab and use one to create simple and work up to complex models would really help me gain this skill.
