I think the "The Flipped Classroom" is an intriguing idea. This concept alters standard instruction and make the learning process a more interactive and individualized approach. Much of class time is spent on the initial instruction and gives little time for practice. By flipping the classroom and making the initial learning process a home-based thing, students can then come in and work through their specific struggles and questions regarding the subject. The classroom then also becomes a place for advanced collaboration. These students begin to work through these concepts together and generate new ideas along the way with their peers and the teacher. Flipping the classroom can give these students a chance to really dig deeper into the concepts. It also rids time spent on the introductory of a concept, which is an increasing problem when it comes to assessment of knowledge.
Open educational resources allow for continuous, typically online, access that educators can utilize at their own expense. No money is involved and teachers can continue to contribute to OER even after their initial use so they can help other teachers as well. Upon searching "open educational resources" in Google I was able to find this incredible post made by The Hewlett Foundation, which is a foundation that invested in the idea of open education resources back in 2002. They were one of the first to invest and continue, to this day, to help fund collections of OER. They see a huge potential in OER and its ability to change the course of education, which is why they have made it their mission to provide for these resources across all grade levels, including universities. I think the coolest skill I gained from this new lesson on PowerPoint was the ability to create a non-linear presentation and use action buttons. Before this I had no idea that option existed much less how to use it. I feel as though being able to create my own really gave me the practice I need to be able to do it in the future. I think for my Assignment 5 particularly I could have gone a little further with my design. I am incredibly happy with how it turned out and looks but going further with the design could have taken it to the next level. I was particularly proud of my Assignment 4. I love the color scheme I chose, the subject material, and the way I executed the information I wanted to highlight.
