Blog #8

I definitely did gain quite a few new skills with Diigo.  Prior to working with this platform, I was extremely into bookmarking.  I am constantly bookmarking all the important things I need on a day-to-day basis and storing them on my Bookmarks Bar.  This is such an effective way to keep track of everything and stay organized.  With Diigo I was able to take that initial skill and now learn how to make these bookmarks public and accessible for everyone.  A skill that I gained from this process, that I actually really appreciate, is the ability to make public comments/highlighting on the actual page being bookmarked.  This helps you keep track of thoughts and voice your opinions and understandings of the content.  I think it could definitely be beneficial in a classroom setting during a research process for a particular project because of its way to compile findings into one central place.

PowerPoint is a really great platform to creatively display your research and understanding of a particular topic.  Thinking in terms of Bloom's Taxonomy, PowerPoint can be really beneficial when meeting these levels of the hierarchy.  For starters, this platform helps you recall information you know and display it in a way that becomes effective.  The second level, "Understand", can also be met because PowerPoint allows you to explain concepts in a presentational form where students can write notes and even refer back to in the future if they have access.  The information your students learn can then be utilized in their future education when advancing on thus satisfying the third level, "Apply".  Within PowerPoint, you can build upon previous information giving like a building block.  You can go further and develop and unpack the idea which ties into the fourth hierarchy "Analyze", which is meant to relay concepts to one another.  For the next level, "Evaluate", PowerPoint can be utilized as a way to promote and defend an idea (say you are utilizing it in a debate class or even a debate project within a specified subject.  It allows for an easy way to get your point across and show your voice.  For the final level, "Create", it is pretty simple.  PowerPoint is a way to express your creative abilities because there are so many ways to design, animate, and enhance what subject is being expressed through the presentation.

I think it is incredibly important for teachers to be keeping up with technology.  It allows for them to educate their students on the types of technology they learn about and even keeps them informed on what's new and hot at the moment.  This can actually give way for a better mutual understanding between teacher and student.  Technology is the driving force of the world right now and it is changing education in numerous ways so staying up-to-date will make for a more effective education for students that will give them skills for the future.  ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) has a blog where they upload all kinds of different information including this one from 2017 about the current trends in educational technology!
