Teachers and students are influenced to use technology in the classroom by a number of things.  The biggest influencer on use of educational technology is the active role technology takes on.  Students and teachers become actively engaged in the material/subject matter because types of educational technology make everything more interactive and exciting to work with.  Another influencer is the need to adapt.  Education is consistently being changed as a direct influence of developing technology.  It is important to acknowledge this and work it into the classroom in a way that allows students to become comfortable with the technology but also simultaneously learning the material.

The ISTE Standards are a great way to engage the different communities in the world of education.  It gives students, teachers, and anyone else a unique way of approaching education in the ever-developing world of technology.  One of the standards that I connect to strongly is "Global Collaborator", which falls under Student Standard.  I chose this standard in particular because it speaks to a world that I know very well: collaboration.  Being a theatre student for so long, collaboration is a skill and tool that is used constantly in the theatre-making process.  Collaborating on a level utilizing technology would be no different when it comes to producing effective and beyond sufficient work with others.  One of the standards that doesn't seem to hit close to home with me is the "Analyst" standard for Educators.  I don't find the analysis of data within an educational  setting to be all that helpful in advancing student performance.  Due to my background in creative collaboration, analyzing data never seemed to matter to me when I think about educating students.  I do, however, know that data analysis is becoming increasingly popular and crucial within an educational setting.

I do think there is something to be said and praised of the term "digital native".  It is true that those who were born into the years when technology and the Internet started to boom have more of a deeper understanding and appreciation for the advancements technology has given the world.  I do find that often when encountering a technological issue in the classroom, the teacher often looks to the student for advice and assistance because it is inherently known/assumed that my current generation has a deeper knowledge of technology and how it works.  I do think that my students will be on a completely different level in terms of understanding technology because it is still growing and advancing and children nowadays are exposed to technology (tablets, cellphones, etc.) much earlier than I was.  Technology is like a second language and when taught very young, the understanding of it is so much deeper.
